With the January 30th release of Blackberry 10 looming closer RIM have updated their BBM service to version 7 beta, this update adds many new features but the most notable being the voice calling function.

RIM Adds calling to their BBM service

This new feature can be used directly from within a BBM chat, or it can be used from from the contacts list. The call will then be initiated over WiFi and the receipent can either choose to accept, decline or reply with a message.
This feature is accompanied by many others including tight intergration with one Blackberry ID to allow easy backups to be made of a users contacts, profile and groups (much like the Microsoft Account intergration in Windows 8 / Windows Phone) which will make moving to a new device much easier. Other smaller updates to the Music app, Mobile hotspot, Blackberry tag, Auto Suggest, Blackberry app world and a few more apps have been made.

The BBM 7 update is avalible to OS 6 users (support for OS 5 planned for a later date) and can be downloaded from the Blackberry Beta Zone.
